COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS

Classics on Kent

This long-standing community event showcases hundreds of classic cars lining the historic downtown area of Lindsay on the third Sunday of July each year. Whether you’re a car enthusiast or simply seeking a great time, the classic car show is the perfect destination for a day of fun and nostalgia, with attractions for the entire family. The partnership between the Lindsay Downtown BIA and WARDS LAWYERS PC not only ensures the return of Classics on Kent in 2024 but is also laying the foundation for a long-lasting tradition that will continue to thrive in the years ahead. By working hand in hand, they aim to create a memorable experience for all attendees while supporting the local economy and fostering a sense of community pride. With their shared commitment to making a positive impact, the future of Classics on Kent looks brighter than ever.

The Grove Theatre

A professional performing arts company located in Fenelon Falls, Ontario, The Grove Theatre is the first artistic venture of its kind in this Kawartha Lakes community. At its idyllically located outdoor amphitheatre, The Grove presents an annual season of its own theatre productions, along with appearances by renowned Canadian guest artists, community events, and now, in the latest addition to its programming in 2024, a drama camp for young people – proudly supported by WARDS LAWYERS PC. In a fun and creative environment, campers develop theatre skills, gain confidence and develop social skills through collaboration and performance.

I just wanted to stop by and say thank you again for your sponsorship of The Grove camp. My daughter had such a fantastic couple weeks and the flowers you brought just made all the kids days.”

Classics on kent

In 2024, WARDS LAWYERS PC was excited to partner with the Lindsay Downtown BIA to bring you Classics on Kent. This event, which takes place on the 3rd Sunday of July each year, showcases hundreds of classic cars lining the historic downtown area of Lindsay.

WARDS LAWYERS PC is proud to continue the tradition of Classics on Kent, creating a memorable experience for all who attend, while supporting the local economy, raising funds for local charity and fostering a sense of community pride.

Downtown Beautification

In 2022, WARDS LAWYERS PC transformed their alleyway into a vibrant destination spot. Inspired by the Renaissance on Hunter Road mural project in Peterborough, the Firm, led by Melissa Wemyss, aimed to turn their alley into a focal point for the Lindsay downtown. To bring this vision to life, the Firm called for Kawartha Lakes artists or collectives to submit proposals, offering a platform for new artists to showcase their work and enhance community engagement.

Local artists Christina Dedes and Julia Derue submitted the winning proposal. Together they designed an illustrative piece that represents the City of Kawartha Lakes. The name Kawartha itself is derived from ka-wa-tha, or ka-wa-tae-gum-maug, which means ‘land of reflections’ in the Anishinaabe language. The mural contains aspects that showcase the “Land of Reflections”, such as Kawartha Lakes’ slogan “Jump In”, the historical Victoria Railway, among other local attributes like the land and water on which we reside.

Wards Wonder Years

After a bit of a hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, WARDS LAWYERS PC hosted their ‘comeback’ community event on October 1, 2023 to mark the Firm’s 20th anniversary. The Firm celebrated this milestone with “Wards Wonder Years”, a fun town-wide scavenger hunt. Each checkpoint represented a significant or historical location or event in Lindsay over the past 20 years, with some of the checkpoints including fun challenges for participants to complete for a chance to win great prizes. Following the scavenger hunt, participants and the community at large were invited to join in the fun at a family festival in Victoria Park with live music, food and games.

Kids’ Road Hockey Tournament

The team at WARDS LAWYERS PC, along with a team of dedicated volunteers, delivered the much-loved Kid’s Road Hockey Tournament in downtown Lindsay from 2014 to 2019, raising over $20,000 in support of youth mental health. This fun and engaging event saw over 500 kids, aged 8 to 13, shut down Kent Street each year for a free day-long road hockey tournament.  Teams competed to have their team names added to 5 life-sized replicas of the Stanley Cup (one for each division). This was truly a community driven event, with local businesses chipping in by offering food, drinks, prizes and special events for the day.

Haunt Your Home

This fun Halloween decorating contest created by WARDS LAWYERS PC (known affectionately as “HYH”) was enjoyed by those far and wide from 2009 to 2014, raising over $30,000 in support of the Kawartha Lakes Boys & Girls Club and other local charities. Entrants could haunt/decorate their home, school or business any way they liked, take photos and create videos of their masterpieces, uploading them to the website, where the public could cast their votes. Winners enjoyed cash and other prizes, which were presented at a fantastic end of contest event. HYH was not only about great Halloween fun (and scaring the hebejebes out of everyone), it was also about bringing families together and supporting our wonderful community.
